Recreation

We've got trails...and lots of them! With over 450 miles of ATV trails and routes, 480 miles of snowmobile trails, 210 miles of mountain bike trails, 75 miles of equestrian trails, 45 miles of cross-country ski trails, and miles and miles of hiking and biking venues. That amounts to well over 1,000 miles of designated trails...or...the distance from Green Bay to New Orleans. That's quite a ride!

While you’re cruising the trails you can think about which of our 378 lakes to visit, many of which are prime walleye fishing spots.

When you come to Oconto County to fish, ride our trails, or just see the sights, be sure to throw your clubs in the car. No matter where you are in the county, you won't be far from one of our eight golf courses. Recreation doesn’t get any better than Oconto County!

The Machickanee Cross Country Ski Trails were originally planned and developed by local skiers in the Oconto County Forest with the cooperation of the Oconto County Land , Forest , and Parks Committee. The current trail system has resulted from the efforts of many volunteers who have donated their time, money, and energy since 1978. In 1982, the Machickanee Cross Country Ski Club was formed to organize those efforts. The trails lead through a series of forest types, including red pine plantations, coniferous swamps, oak ridges, and birch and aspen stands. They undulate through topography ranging from creek bottoms to ridge tops. Numerous hills and curves of various slopes and lengths make this course a challenge for the intermediate to advanced skiers. Find us on Facebook!
