A new event venue, designed with the purpose of making and capturing memories, opened Sept. 1 in Mountain. Mountain Memories, 13073 Highway 32/64 in Mountain, offers space for up to 65 guests to gather for bridal showers, birthday parties, holiday gatherings, and other special events. Owners Roger and Cheryl Lambert renovated a bar and restaurant, Tracy’s Place, into a venue for private gatherings and corporate events. They look forward to hosting a variety of family and community gatherings, providing a welcoming atmosphere and friendly customer service.

Apr. 10, 2020 - National Forest Closures - Rhinelander, WI – APRIL 10, 2020 -- In alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure health safety of its employees, visitors and volunteers, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will be delaying the opening of all recreation sites and not allowing camping or campfires until further notice. In addition, the Forest is implementing a group-size limitation of 10 people or less per group across the entire Forest. Last week, the Forest shutdown all restrooms and removed garbage receptacles at recreation sites.

May 3, 2016 - Mountain Fire Lookout Tower Re-Opening Ceremony - Mountain, June 10, 2016: We are pleased to invite you to a re-opening ceremony of the Mountain Fire Lookout Tower on the Lakewood Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The ceremony will be held at 10a.m. Friday, June 10, 2016. The ceremony will take place at the tower approximately two and one-half miles north of Mountain, Wisconsin off of Old 32 (Forest Road 2106). We are planning to serve snacks and refreshments immediately after the ceremony at the Schoolhouse Bar (14007 WI-32) in Mountain.

The Oconto County ATV/UTV trails normally open every year on May 1st, which this year falls on a Sunday. The committee has decided to open the Oconto County ATV/UTV trails on Saturday, April 30th, 2016. This will allow ATV/UTV riders a full weekend of riding to start the ATV/UTV season.

After I toured the northern half of Oconto County in March of 2009, I wrote an article that appeared a year later in Illinois Snowmobiler magazine. The publication of that piece promted an invitation to visit again, which I was finally able to do last February. After several lackluster winters, this large, stairstep-shaped conty was blessed with an abundance of snow, creating prime conditions for a Friday-Saturday tour of its southern half.
