Lena Lanes is a spacious eight-lane bowling alley located in the heart of Lena, WI approximately 30 miles North of Green Bay. Having opened in 1978, this spot serves as a landmark in town and has a wonderful history of providing entertainment, food, and spirits to its patrons. The bar area of Lena Lanes is complete with pool tables, an air hockey table, an elevated video gaming area, as well as a horseshoe style shaped bar with a kitchen area tucked behind it. New pins, recently refinished lanes, and an overall clean and well-kept atmosphere characterize the bowling area.
The 1868 brick home is furnished to reflect the Victorian period. A museum annex on the grounds contains Old Main Street and its shops, Copper Culture artifacts, and displays about Oconto County history. A barn/carriage house houses tools and historic vehicles, including two antique electric cars. A restored log cabin reflects life on the frontier.
Copper Culture State Park was established after discovery in 1952 of artifacts relating to the Old Copper Culture. These artifacts date from about 4000 to 3000 BC. Burial ground of North America’s earliest metal users, the Oconto Site is the oldest dated cemetery in Eastern North America.
Chase, Wisconsin is about 20 miles northwest of Green Bay in Oconto County. What has come to be known as the Chase Stone Barn was built in 1903 and is on the State and National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the last surviving all-fieldstone barns in the country. The town is currently in the process of raising funds to help restore the barn and develop the park. The stones were gathered from local farm fields over a century ago, however their origin was Canada. Massive glaciers pushed and tumbled the stone to the Wisconsin region during three known ice ages over the past 70,000 years. Some of the stones are over 2 billion years old!
Built in 1886 for $1,137.20, this structure is the first edifice built for Christian Science services in the world. Although the Mother Church in Boston had started a number of years before, no building had been completed for the express purpose of worship until Oconto's church was erected.
Twenty-one historic homes and one church reflect a variety of architectural designs and influences. Many belonged to prominent Oconto business families. A guided tour is available by appointment through the OCHS. A self guided walking tour booklet can be obtained at the Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce. Between Erie Avenue and Duncan Lane. The museum features a variety of local history and artifacts including tools and displays of the trapping and logging industry that once dominated the area. The log home was moved to the museum site from a rural farm and gives a realistic look at the rustic living of loggers in the past.
Original Oconto County offices and jail were located at the intersection of 1st Street and Collins Avenue. The original building became the central part of the hospital. Additions were made but the hospital closed in 2002. The present Courthouse (central building) at 300 Washington Street west of Park Avenue was severely damaged by fire in 1907. Several additions have been made. National Register of Historic Places, 1982.
Built in 1922, this Georgian Revival-style building has a monumental round arch door and windows.

Visit the oldest logging camp in the country still standing where it was built, in 1881. Operated and maintained by the Oconto County Historical Society. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bagley Rapids, set among the pines, has millions of gallons of water rushing down the rapids on the Oconto River. You can walk out to the rock ledge to observe the rapids. The best time to view this site is spring.
Directions: From Mountain, follow State Hwy 32 south about 2 miles. Turn right (west) on Bagley Rapids Road. Signs will direct you to the parking area.
Facilities: Parking lot for 6 vehicles, restrooms, campgrounds adjacent. The site is 1/8 mile from the parking lot and is not accessible to person with disabilities.
Throughout the centuries, this site has been used first by American Indians, then loggers, and now is part of the Boulder Lake Campground. A trail leads from the boat landing parking area to the site. Interpretive signs will give you a glimpse into the lifeways of the people who once lived in this woodland lake setting. While no visible signs remain from those people who lived here 500 to 1,000 years ago, you will be able to see remnant logging camp structures from the early 1900's. The best time to visit is May through October.
Directions: From Mountain, follow County W west approximately 10 miles to FR 2116. Turn right (north) to the campground. Follow the signs to the boat landing parking lot.
Parking lot for 14 vehicles and restrooms, interpretive signs. This site is 100 yards from the parking lot and is partially accessible to persons with disabilities.
Follow this 1/4 mile trail into a unique "cathedral" of towering pines and hemlock trees. This area survived Wisconsin's logging era and has been preserved in its natural state. During early summer you may observe great blue herons nesting high in the tallest pines. This is one of Wisconsin's largest active heron colonies. The site may be visited May through October.
Directions: From Lakewood, take State Hwy 32 North 1 mile to Archibald Road (FR 2121). Turn left (west) for 1-1/2 miles. Watch for signs on the left side of the road. Turn right to parking area.
There is parking for 5 vehicles, hiking trails and benches. The site is accessible for persons with disabilities.
Off Hwy 32/64 about two miles south of Mountain, in the Nicolet National Forest. Also known as Weber Lake. Built by the CCCs. National Register of Historic Places, 1996.
The Mountain Fire Lookout Tower is situated two miles north of the community of Mountain in Oconto County, in the Nicolet National Forest. The tower is a galvanized steel structure resting on four concrete piers. An interior stairway rises through the center of the tower to the lookout, or cab, at the top. Prefabricated by the Aermotor Company in 1932, the Mountain Fire Lookout Tower was initially erected by the Wisconsin Conservation Commission at another location in the Nicolet National Forest. In 1935, the tower was moved to its current site.
Directions: From Mountain, take old 32 Road north 2 1/2 miles to entrance sign on right side of road. A gravel road leads to the parking area.
Facilities: Parking for 5 vehicles, interpretive signs and picnic area. The signs and picnic area at the base of the tower are accessible to persons with disabilities.

R-113 passes through the Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest where beautiful wooded vistas teem with wildlife and birds. A complimentary feature is the Mountain Fire Tower. It was built in 1934 and is the only fire tower still standing in the area. R-113 also provides access to the Nicolet State Trail and cross country ski trails.

This “frontier style” boarding house/saloon was built the year the Chicago and Northeastern Railroad was cutting a line through the virgin pine forest from Gillett, WI to Wabeno, WI. It first served as a boarding house for the railway construction workers and later for the crews and lumberjacks who began to harvest the region. WI32 E. 2.3 miles from Suring, N. on CR Z 0.7 miles, E. on CR M 2.5 miles, N. on Hickory Cemetery Rd. 0.3 miles to the barn on the E. side of the road. 12 sided, red metal vertical siding, no cupola, sectional cone roof, large dormer on the S., very good condition.

Fall color in the Lakewood and Laona area of the Nicolet peaks in mid to late September with the brilliant orange hues of sugar maple along with the reds of sumac and red maple. Later in October there is a second peak with the yellow of aspen, paper birch, and tamarack. Also in October the oaks turn rich shades of red and bronze.
