ATV Safety Course Being Offered (WDNR Site)

"Winter Use of Trails by ATVs" policy:

The experiment to allow ATV use of the Nicolet Recreation Trail has been extended by Oconto County for the 2008-2009 winter season.

• The Nicolet Trail runs from the Oconto /Shawano Line north to Townsend. This is the former railroad grade. No side trails are open during winter. Check with local jurisdictions to verify that local routes are open. (A phone call is less expensive than a ticket)
• Time period is December 15, 2008 to March 31, 2009
• Ground must be frozen, including trail surface
• ATVs will be allowed until there is groom able snow
• Once the trails are closed to ATVs based upon snow cover the trail will be closed until May 1, 2009
• If any portion of the trail is closed due to snow cover the entire Nicolet Trail will be closed to avoid confusion
• The Oconto County Recreation Officer will determine if there is sufficient snow to groom for snowmobile use.
